5 School of Management and Marketing FLEXIBILITY OF UNDERGRADUATE OFFERINGS In addition to majoring in one area included in the BBus students may elect to: undertake two major studies in different discipline areas for example HRM and Marketing or Tourism Management and Accounting [the first major must come from the BBus and second major may come from other programs offered throughout USQ] undertake a combined degree e.g. Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business undertake a double degree e.g. Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Information Technology – students receive two testamurs

6 School of Management and Marketing AREAS OF STUDY The following areas of study are available within our undergraduate programs: Administrative Management Human Resource Management Management and Leadership International Business (*proposed to commence 2010) Marketing Supply Chain Management Tourism management

7 Administrative Management Major Topics: managing administrative staff, ethical and legal issues affecting administrative personnel, records management, business communication, information technology, information management and administrative functions Career opportunities: administrative manager, administrative office manager, records manager, administrative assistant.

8 Management and Leadership Major Topics: managing organisations, organisational behaviour and management, leadership, people development, knowledge management, international management, leading organisational change and business strategy. Career opportunities: management and leadership positions in a wide range of public and private organisations.

9 Human Resource Management Major Topics: organisational behaviour and management, staffing and remuneration, workplace health and safety, employment relations, people development, workplace negotiations, strategic human resource management and leading organisational change. Career opportunities: Personnel officer, employment officer, training officer, industrial relations officer, safety and welfare officer, human resource manager, hospitality industry.

10 International Business Major (proposed to commence 2010) Topics: international management, business strategy in a global environment, international relations, politics and international business, international marketing Career opportunities: enhanced careers in global organisations, multinational firms, government departments, investment and financial institutions, import and export companies, international organisations

14 School of Management and Marketing SOME INTERESTING MINORS Apart from minor studies in the seven major discipline areas a range of four-course minors are available to complement your studies including: Wine Business Management Sports Marketing Small Business Information Management

15 School of Management and Marketing POST GRADUATE OFFERINGS Master of Business Administration (MBA) an advanced academic program for graduates from any discipline who have considerable business experience, and who have a recognised potential for advanced managerial responsibility Master of Management graduates will have sufficient theoretical and empirical understanding to enable them to identify and resolve business challenges in their professions. Master of Project Management aims to produce graduates who have appropriate skills and knowledge to be capable of managing small, medium and large-sized projects as a senior team leader, a project manager or project director. DBA a high-level, vocationally-oriented program that gives students who are already business professionals sufficient theoretical and empirical understanding to enable them to identify and resolve business challenges in both the private and public sectors. PhD provides students with training to become an effective and competent researcher in their discipline of interest.

16 School of Management and Marketing INDUSTRY BASED TRAINING In addition to programs listed in previous slides the school works with industry, professional bodies and government departments to provide education and training to meet the specific needs of organisations
