AMS-02 tracker mechanics status of assembly and integration at UniGe Outer planes: - Tests of evaporator (cooling loop) integration - Tools to develop Inner tracker integration: - Assembly and cabling - Temperature and magnetic field sensors - Shells closing and flanges mounting - Tests of evaporator integration (pre-assembly) Preparations: - Pre-assembly of outer planes + inner tracker - TAS tests - Transport and storage at CERN Divic RAPIN, UniGe

General view of Silicon tracker 5 planes, 8 layers Plane 1, layer 1 Plane 2, layers 2&3 Plane 3, layers 4&5 Plane 4, layers 6&7 Plane 5, layer ladder modules

Ladder Assembly (Perugia-Geneva) ASSEMBLY ~ 210 ladders build PHASE 2 hybrid box & legs gluing ~ completed EMI SHIELDING ( kapton foil wrapping) ~ 31 ready for process Full test at each step with RA source and noise control

Installation of ladders on support planes (UniGe clean room) Plane 3 being stored (under Nitrogen) Details of fixation on both sides FINISHED

Complete installation and assembly jig Outer ring assembly and installation jig Inner ring assembly and installation jig Cooling loops are fragile and not self supporting. They need to be kept in jigs for fabrication, storage, transport and assembly Upper cooling loops (build at NIKHEF) were delivered for pre-assembly tests at UniGe

Test of outer cooling loop integration on plane 1

The outer loop can be mounted -The fabrication jig is not well suited for installation - - Need to develop an new tool for installation of outer planes to tracker and vacuum case (compatible with cables and TAS). - Need information from TAS about patch panel dimensions

Assembly of the inner tracker Set-up for storage & insertion into the magnet. Cables must be installed before the supporting shells and extra length must be attached to temporary supports. Further integration works delayed by cosmic and TAS tests UniGe manpower resources are decreasing

Tracker without closing and supporting shells

Inner cabling is finalized Clamps to fix the cables on the back of the hybrids Extra length of cables is stored on top and bottom temporary supports

Temperature sensors for inner tracker Four double Dallas sensors will measure temperature at the center of inner tracker. (not foreseen from beginning of project) Integration constraints lead us to join inner measurement chain with upper loops measurement chain.

Difficult locations (2 mm clearance from the edges of the bars to the shell) Difficult locations ~Free apertures Shown previously

T-measurement chain installation Pieces were developed and built to support and guide the wires of the Dallas sensors chains through difficult locations.

T-measurement chain installation T-sensors Magnetic field sensors ( ETHZ )

Installation of supporting shells is starting Checking mechanical interferences and mountability

Near future integration operations at UniGe Design of storage and transport jigs for inner tracker and outer planes (re-use of Alu frame used for AMS01 beam test) (in progress) Design and construction of outer plane installation jig (info from TAS needed). Supporting shells installation and remove inner tracker from Durga. Pre-assembly of inner evaporator on inner tracker (check mountability). Pre-assembly of outer planes (check mountability) on inner tracker. Time requested by TAS for laser beam alignment/installation. Orbital welding of new connectors is needed for upper/lower inner/outer evaporators (on critical path)
