HALLOWEEN!

Halloween was one of the oldest holiday and has had many influences from many cultures over the centuries …

ORIGINS PLACE: Great Britain and Northern of France. Where the CELTS. lived They had many GODS, B ut the SUN was their favorite.

CELEBRATIONS They celebrate the new year on November 1 st.This festival was called SAMHAIN, and this marked.. -The end of the SEASON OF THE SUN. -The beginning of the SEASON OF THE DARKNESS AND COLD.

ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS DAY. >The all saints day was to honor of the saints and it was celebrated on November 1st. >The all souls day was to honor the dead. It was on November 2nd and It was celebrated with parades where people were dressing up as saints, angels and devils.

THE FESTIVAL It would last for three days and many people would parade in costumes Made of skins and heads of their animals. This would became the first HALLOWEEN.

OCTOBER 31st. The celtic priests met in the dark oak forest where they would light new fires and offer sacrifices.

INVATION.. During the first century the Romans invaded Britain and they brought with them many of their FESTIVALS and COSTUMS. One of these was the POMONA DAY( it was also celebrate on the 1st of November)

THE MIXED.. Hundreds of years after the POMONA DAY and the SAMHAIN mixed and became one major fall holiday.

But the spread of Christianity did not make people forget their early costumes. On the eve on ALL HALLOWS (all saints day, Oct. 31) they continue to celebrate the festivals of SAMHAIN and POMONA DAY. Over the years all this costumes MIXED and October 31st became known as..

ALL HALLOW EVE, Eventually… HALLOW' EN And finally HALLOWEEN.

The Halloween we celebrate today includes all of these influences, Pomona Day's apples, nuts, and harvest, the Festival of Samhain's black cats, magic, evil spirits and death, and the ghosts, skeletons and skulls from All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day.
