2 Where do you celebrate Halloween?
When is Halloween? It’s on the thirty-first of October. Where do you celebrate Halloween? They celebrate Halloween in the USA, in Great Britain and in many English-speaking countries.

3 Origins What did the Celts celebrate on that day?
For them, it was the end of the year. It was the beginning of winter. What did the Celts believe? They believed that ghosts, witches and evil spirits returned on that night. What did the Celts do to make them go away? They put on scary costumes and made big fires!

4 Colours What are the 2 colours of Halloween? Black and orange!
What do they represent? Black represents winter and long nights. Orange represents the harvest. What did the Druids believe about black cats? They believed they had special powers. So they became a symbol for Halloween.

5 Name What did the Catholic church decide in the 8th century?
It decided to call the 1st of November « All Saints’ day » or « All Hallows’ day ». So what about the 31st of October? The 31st of October was « All Hallows’ eve ». It became « Halloween » = La veille
