My SCIENTIFIC NAME: Vulpes Macrotis

My DIET: kangaroo rats cottontail rabbits black-tailed jackrabbits meadow voles hares prairie dogs insects lizards snakes fish ground-dwelling birds mice antelope squirrel vegetation & grasses

My APPEARANCE: large ears, inches, great hearing to beware of predators gray coat with rusty tints; back is darker while belly & inner ears are lighter; dark patches around the nose body is in. bushy, in. tail coat camouflages with surroundings

My Natural Enemies: coyotes red foxes large hawks owls eagles bobcats domestic dogs large raptors

My SELF DEFENSE: digging escape burrows where they hunker down until it's safe to come out

San Joaquin Valley (mostly on the southeastern part)

My PUPS: are born when the kit fox is about one year old are born in February or March emerge from underground when they are around one month of age usually have many brothers and sisters, as they are born ranging 2-6 pups taken care of by

My STATUS: declared endangered Defenders of Wildlife and other conservations working on how to revive San Joaquin kit foxes

My THREATS: changes in precipitation pattern, including reduced rainfall and increase changes of drought, all caused by climate change change in the Central Valley from open grasslands to farms, orchards, houses and roads causes greatest impact roads, orchards, houses, and farms lead to death, injury, illness, and difficulty finding a mate or food floods and suffocating because of cave ins

I am the smallest species of the fox to be found in America, weighing only 5 pounds I don’t need freshwater to survive, since it’s in my food. My large ears might help dissipate body heat and detect tiny noises/sounds. I’m one of a kind- an umbrella species(protecting my habitat will save other animals too)! I can move between 30 different dens and roam 9 miles in search of food at night. Carrizo Plain is where the largest kit fox, my relative, lives. nocturnal animals
