"Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Witch To Live" by Adrianna Kinney

Death of a Witch Accused witches were either burned at the stake, hanged, or tortured to death.

European Witch Trials

Witches in Europe Most Witches were killed in the Central European countries such as: Germany Switzerland France These countries were developing rapidly and this was where the Catholic Church was weakest.

German Witch Trials The worst witch trials were in Germany. Around 26,000 people were killed in Germany between the 1400s and the 1800s.

Witch Hunting The notorious witch hunting book, the Hammer of Witches, or in Latin, Malleus Maleficarum, was published in 1486 by two German men named Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger.

Definition of a Witch Witches were believed to be the Devil`s assistants. They were originally healers and wise women but that definition was overruled by the Catholic Church

Slowly, the witch trials made their way to the New World. America

Salem Witch Trials In the years 1691 and 1692, nineteen people were hung in the Salem Witch Trials in Salem Village, Massachusetts.

The First Three Witches The first three women to be accused of being witches were Tituba, Samuel Parris` maid, Sarah Goode, who was accused of being a witch by Tituba, and Sarah Osborne, who was accused because she tried to get her late husband's property and wealth for herself and her new husband.

Giles Corey Giles Corey was one of the people killed in the Salem Witch Trials. He was not hung or accused of being a wizard, or a male witch. The judges of the trials wanted his testimony for his wife, Martha Corey, of being a witch. They tried to take it by force and laid him down on a table with a board on his chest. They kept placing rocks on the board. His last word were "More weight!"

Accusers The accusers were a group of teenage girls that lived in Salem. They were thought to be bewitched by the witches. The first girls to exhibit signs of being "bewitched" were Betty Parris and Abigail Williams. They distorted their bodies in odd ways and would begin to yell and scream like they were in tremendous pain. They would do this in the courtroom while the "witches" were on the stand. Only if the "witch" touched them would they stop the yelling.

These women were innocent and I believe these were the worst genocides in history. It is a horrible act against humanity.
