Married Robert Prince Robert Prince purchased a farm next to his friend and brother-in-law, Captain John Putnam’s Prince died in 1674 and left the farm to his two sons, James and Joseph James was six years old - Joseph was two

4 Sarah Osborne After her husband’s death, Sarah hired Alexander Osborne, an indentured Irish immigrant After a while, she paid off his indenture and married him Then, she attempted to take over the estate By doing this, she was breaking her deceased husband’s will

5 Sarah Osborne Legal battles began between Osborne and the Putnams who decided to defend Sarah’s children This conflict continued until February of 1692 At this point, Sarah was accused by the Putnams for afflicting the young girls: Ann Putnam, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Hubbard She never confessed to witchcraft…

6 Sarah Osborne Osborne claimed in her defense that the devil could take the shape of another person without the person knowing it Osborne never came to trial She died shackled in prison on May 10, 1692 at age 49 Some believe that she was charged because she upset the established “patterns of land tenure and inheritance”
