Compass Rose Shows where the cardinal directions (and sometimes intermediate directions) are positioned. Cardinal Directions = North, South, East, West Intermediate Directions = Those Between

Scale A measuring line that helps show distance (for example, 1 inch = 100 miles)

Different Kinds of Maps Political Maps – show man-made divisions and boundaries Physical Maps – show physical features, such as mountains and rivers Contour Maps – shows elevation

Different Kinds of Maps, cont. Land Use and Resources Maps – show natural resources and ways of life Population Density Maps – show average number of people living in an area Climate Maps – show information about an area’s rain, snow, temperatures, etc.
