What types of map data would be useful? Highly detailed topographic vector data. Building heights data to assess the visual impact of the development. A less detailed vector map product, to extract transport network details. Raster maps to show site location and use as backdrop maps, at two different scales - 1:10,000 and around 1:200,000. Your task: 1.Login to Digimap. 2.Select Ordnance Survey > Data Download 3.Order these map data products – select format, layers and dates in the basket! For Stratford Marsh (Tower Hamlets) area of East London: OS MasterMap Topography - File Geodatabase format OS MasterMap Building Height Attributes– CSV format OS Street View backdrop mapping 1: Raster backdrop mapping OS Terrain 50 DTM Meridian 2 Tiles – DXF format In the basket, name your order Claire Claire is in the final year of a BA in Human Geography at Kingston University. Her undergraduate dissertation topic is looking at the process of urban regeneration for the Olympic Park site in East London. Map images :: © Crown Copyright and Database Right Ordnance Survey (Digimap Licence). Claire is in the final year of a BA in Human Geography at Kingston University. Her undergraduate dissertation topic is looking at the process of urban regeneration for the Olympic Park site in East London. Claire wants to create a series of maps, using ArcGIS, showing the development of the Olympic Park and surrounding area. Claire wants to create: a map showing the location of the Olympic Park in Greater London. a map showing major transport networks in and around East London. maps showing the Olympic Park area at different points of construction. Type of maps Claire will create:

What types of map data would be useful? Westminster parliamentary constituency boundaries. Shape file format is preferred. Small scale (lower level of detail) background map, perhaps 1: scale, to give context to the boundaries, showing the major cities and geographical features within the UK. Your task: 1.Login to Digimap 2.Select Ordnance Survey > Data Download 3.Order these map data products - select format, layers and dates in the basket! For the whole of Great Britain: 1: Raster backdrop mapping Boundary Line – Shape file format, Westminster Constituency boundaries layer only In the basket, give your order the name Amy Amy is studying for a BA in Politics and Sociology at Manchester University. For her final year dissertation she wants to explore differences in which parties were voted for at the last UK General Election. Amy has downloaded election results from the 2010 UK General Election from the Electoral Commission. She wants to analyse these results and creating maps displaying the results will help her do this. Amy wants to create: a map showing parliamentary constituency areas coloured according to which party won a map showing the split of the vote for selected parliamentary constituencies in the UK. What types of map data would be useful? DTM and contour data, at 1:10000 scale. Two raster maps - one to show Cumbria and North of England, perhaps 1: or less detailed. Another to plot Cumbria wind farm sites, say 1:25000 or 1:50000 scale. Your task: 1.Login to Digimap 2.Select Ordnance Survey > Data Download 3.Order these map data products - select format, layers and dates in the basket! For National Grid tile NY: 1:50000 Raster backdrop mapping – for 2011 Miniscale backdrop mapping – for 2011 OS Terrain 5 Contours – Shape format OS Terrain 5 DTM – ASC format In the basket, give your order the name Dave Claire is in the final year of a BA in Human Geography at Kingston University. Her undergraduate dissertation topic is looking at the process of urban regeneration for the Olympic Park site in East London. Dave is studying for an MSc in Environmental Science at the University of Leeds. His dissertation is investigating the potential impact of proposed wind farms in Cumbria on the surrounding ecology. Dave has collected ecological data at the proposed sites to feed into his 3D GIS model of the sites and surrounding areas. He also has the coordinates of both proposed and existing wind farm sites. Dave wants to create: a map showing Cumbria in the context of the North of England. a map showing the location of the proposed wind farms. Digital Terrain Models, plus contour maps, to assess where the proposed sites can be seen in the surrounding area. Map images: © Crown Copyright and Database Right Ordnance Survey (Digimap Licence). Type of maps Dave will create:

What types of map data would be useful? Regional background map to show Huddersfield location. A detailed background map showing street names. Road Network Data to show one way streets etc. Detailed vector data for measuring street lengths and potential areas for new filter lanes etc. Shape file format preferable. Your task: 1.Login to Digimap 2.Select Ordnance Survey > Data Download 3.Order these map data products – click change in the basket for options: For Huddersfield city centre (make sure you include the ring road) - OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network (ITN) - GML format, March 2013 version OS Streetview backdrop mapping Miniscale backdrop mapping Vector Map Local - Shape format, April 2013 version In the basket, name your order Chris Claire is in the final year of a BA in Human Geography at Kingston University. Her undergraduate dissertation topic is looking at the process of urban regeneration for the Olympic Park site in East London. Map images : © Crown copyright/database right Ordnance Survey/EDINA supplied service. FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY. Chris is studying for an MSc in Spatial Planning at Oxford Brookes University. His dissertation topic is Speeding up Traffic Flow within Huddersfield’s Ring Road. Chris has 24 hour traffic data on the number of cars passing through traffic lights, for all intersections within the Huddersfield ring road. He also has a Shapefile (GIS file format) of the locations of the traffic lights, and their timings. Chris wants to create: Map showing the location of Huddersfield in the UK. More detailed map showing the street layout of the town centre. Map of traffic light locations and directions of traffic flow. Map showing the distances between junctions and how long traffic has between green lights. Type of maps Chris will create:

What types of map data would be useful? Geology data which identifies general rock types. Geology data indicating risk of flooding and data on aquifers. OS small scale map data to give an overview of Great Britain. OS vector data showing water sources, population centres and the road and rail transport network. Your task: 1.Login to Digimap and order the map data detailed below, for the whole of Great Britain. Remember you can click change in the basket for options: Select Geology Digimap > Geology Download Onshore Geology > 1: Geology – Shape format Groundwater > Geological Indicators of Flooding – Shape format Groundwater > 1: Hydrogeology – Shape format In the basket, name your order Bob Bob is in his second year of an Environmental Geoscience degree at the University of Edinburgh. His current project is to find potential locations for a nuclear power station. Bob wants to use ArcGIS to rule in or out locations based on a number of factors: the suitability of the bedrock, proximity to water, distance from large population centres, and ease of access. He has some Ordnance Survey data. He now needs geological data. Map images : © Crown copyright/database right Ordnance Survey/EDINA supplied service. FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY.
