Diederik Wortmann

 Modern websites can be as complex as full-scale information systems  The development of these websites turns into large projects with many considerations  There are a number of academic methods that attempt to assist designers Two difficulties:  Experience not taken into account  Pre-existing software not taken into account

 Relatively old website design methods exist  RMM (1995), OOHDM (1996), WebML (2000), some others  These methods are not used frequently in the website design industry  Too specific to be used in general  Limited consistency with practical design processes  No acknowledgement of newer methods is made

Etienne Cocquebert University of Lille Nord de France Damien Trentesaux Christian Tahon University of Valenciennes and Hainaut-Cambresis

Goals of WISDOM: 1. Guide the design process 2. Propose pre-existing design solutions 3. Facilitate the selection of pre-existing software implementations 4. Speed up website construction

 Collect website requirements, considered input for all following phases  Define website context (Gnaho, 2010) Figure 1: Website category selection

 Facilitates the design of the navigational menu  Outputs a set of menu items

 Helps the designer to organize data elements:  Navigation area  Page content area  News area  etc  Outputs a graphic template that organizes page presentation

 Helps the designer to decide which software components will be used  Accepts a knowledge base of software components as input

For each menu item:  Decide content source of page  Configure content source

Figure 2: WISDOM PDD

 Reconsider phase 2: navigation design  Facilitates the design of the navigational menu  Outputs a set of menu items Figure 3: Navigation menu model
