Scrutineering 2012 Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20121

Read the rules Understand the rules Build the car according the rules Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20122

Scrutineering at FSA 2012 – Some hints to pass scrutineering the easy way  Bring your car ready to inspect to the scrutineering  The following items must be brought to tech inspection:  Vehicle  Dry and wet tires  Driver’s equipment including helmets, suits, gloves, eye protection, hair protection equipment, socks, and shoes for all drivers (Note: This includes your wrist restraints.)  Fire extinguishers  Push bar  Structural Equivalency Form (SEF) copies  Technical Inspection form  All your team’s drivers – To check all drivers is on request of the scrutineer Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20123

Scrutineering at FSA 2012 – Some hints to pass scrutineering the easy way  Additionally you’ll need:  Impact attenuator test piece  Monocoque test specimens – if applicable  Tools to disassemble your air intake to allow access to the restrictor  Tools to remove your body panels and any parts that are blocking inspection access  Copies of your team’s rules questions and Committee’s answers  Material to record the inspectors’ comments Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20124

Scrutineering at FSA 2012 Sticker Removal If the officials believe your car may be out of compliance they can pull parts of your sticker and send you back for re-inspection. As examples, if a hole appears in your muffler you’ll lose your Part 3 of the sticker until your noise level has been retested. If a wheel comes off during acceleration we’ll pull Part 1 and you’ll have to go back to tech. Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20125

Firewall  Firewall will be inspected during FSA 2012 keenly  Please review rule B4.5 for detailed definition of the firewall  Preferable material for the firewall:  Aluminum foil tape is not allowed as firewall  Aluminum foil is only allowed for sealing the edges of the firewall  Make sure to use high temperature resistant aluminum foil tape (e.g. 3M 433 or equivalent; if another aluminum foil tape is used please bring a date sheet to tech inspection which states the operating temperature range) Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20126

Fasteners  Please make sure to use the right fastener quality (8.8 and greater)  Stainless steel bolts are not allowed at critical positions (e.g. steering, suspension, brakes,…)  Please make sure that there is a minimum of two (2) full threads projecting from any lock nut.  Use a correct lock wiring: Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20127

Pedals  Brake pedal has to be tested by a team member (under maximum possible load) while a scrutineer is monitoring the behavior of the pedal  Throttle pedal has to be tested by a team member (under maximum possible load) while a scrutineer is monitoring the behavior of the pedal Throttle body  Each return spring of the throttle will be checked individually  Make sure that the springs are accessible Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20128

Inspection holes  To allow the verification of tubing wall thicknesses, 4.5 mm (0.18 inch) inspection holes must be drilled in a non-critical location of both the Main Hoop and the Front Hoop. In addition, the Technical Inspectors may check the compliance of other tubes that have minimum dimensions specified. This may be done by the use of ultra sonic testing or by the drilling of additional inspection holes at the inspector’s request. Inspection holes must be located such that the outside diameter can be measured ACROSS the inspection hole with a vernier caliper, i.e. there must be access for the vernier caliper to the inspection hole and to the outside of the tube one hundred eighty degrees (180°) from the inspection hole. © Formula Student Germany rules > Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May 20129

Fuel filler neck  Fuel filler neck must be accessible without manipulating the tank or the car in any manner  This includes also body panels DI-Fuel injection systems  Cars which are equipped with a DI fuel injection system require an engine start prior to the tilt test (see 8.9.2) Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May

Driver change area  During driver change its prohibited to touch the car in any manner except for:  Adjusting head restraint  Adjusting seat cushion  Adjusting pedal position, etc.  It’s not allowed to operate the master switch during driver change Wolfgang GruberSunday, 27 May
