AIMS Evaluation of participation in urban places to point out and to think over the interventions in the contexts in transformation and to promote processes of urban participation Dialogue and Sharing between all stakeholders and citizen in planning context To give back Knowledge and local skills To promote actions and citizen’s participation

Evaluation of research tools for the study of social transformation and following actions  Analysis of the community ( Francescato’s Community Profiles; Arcidiacono, 1999; Arcidiacono, Sommantico, Procentese, 2002) in order to achieve a careful and accurate knowledge of the situation of the territorial context by studying the socio-environmental, demographic, anthropological (Signorelli, 1996) and psychological variables of the city.  Key people and stakeholders interviews.  Questionnaires and specific scale (environment, neighbourhood, etc.)  Photo-dialogue (Legewie 2000, 2003; Arcidiacono,2004; Procentese, 2004).  Public Exhibition is the catalyst for the new tools combination. The results get presented in text and picture.  The exhibition creates a space for a dialogue among people of the community: the interviewees and interviewer meet, the general public gets invited, representatives of all stakeholder-groups get in touch and discuss the results.

Study of research project “Urban Catalysts– Strategies for Temporary Uses. Potential for Development of Urban Residual Areas in European Metropolises”, (Procentese 2002 ) PHASE I Objectives: this qualitative study, realised in five Europeans city, has examined the reason of the presence and characteristics of the residual areas to understand the quality and development of the temporary use and to develop tools and methodology to empowerment citizen management.The attention is focalised on the urban aspects and public politicies for the territorial spaces. In Campania, Phlegrean region has been considered, and in particular the area extending from Capo Miseno to Monte di Procida, and along the coast between Bacoli and Fusaro. Methodology: a) 15 semi-structured interviews carried out in September b)Exhibition. C)Public debate with the participant of local politicians and association. PHASE II: FOLLOW UP INTERVIEWS 5 MONTHS AFTER In this phase we identified the salient points expressed by the participants in relation to the changes and dialogue developed among the various groups present on the territory Methodology: 9 Interviews The interviewed people were chosen according to the indications and criteria laid down by the team of professionals involved in the Urban Catalyst project; they include representatives of institutions, trades people and local residents (local administrators, restaurant owners, managers of bathing establishments, carpark attendants and boat minders) and individuals (visitors, day trippers, people practising sports) who make temporary use of the territory. the interviewed person have been individuated among the participants to the exhibition: 6 given contribution to the realizations of events while 3 have visited the exhibition. DATA ANALISYS the interviews have been analysed for thematic areas in order to aim exploration effects of the utilised methodology Historical centre of Naples Arcidiacono, 2002, 2003, 2004; Arcidiacono Procentese, in press. PHASE I the research explored the relation between inhabitants and tourists in the historical centre of Naples, rich in history and traditions. the aim has been to investigate the psychological sense of community in a very distinctiveness context following a participatory action research methodology and using a qualitative approach to the analysis of the collected data. The chosen methodology allows us to discover the social representation of the area and to create a specifically hierarchy related to the investigated context. The action-research, carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Naples, the Tourist Office and associations of the quarter. The scope is to explore the community identity and its representation among the inhabitants with regard to their belonging to the historical Centre, as well as their representation of the resources, limits and potentialities of the area, also considering the social and cultural impact of tourism. 1 YEAR AFTER PHASE II To examine the effects, the processes, challenges and problem associated with the conduct participatory methodology after public exhibition 2 Discussion group with 10 participants to the exhibition (stakeholders, referents associations; citizen) – 5 Interviews to Key people and citizen DATA ANALISYS the interviews have been analysed for thematic areas in order to aims exploration effects of the utilised methodology Results?
