Introduction JARL has great pleasure in participating GAREC JARL believes that the work of GAREC is important and continues to support it.

JAPAN Happily, in the period reported since the Tokyo GAREC 2009 there has been no significant emergency involving amateurs in Japan. In Japan a growing number of emergency groups in Japanese clubs, often with Memorandums of Understandings with Local Authorities, continue to be prepared to assist when needed, and the JARL continues to coordinate these activities by publishing standard emergency procedures.

AUSTRALIA The WIA decided that, in addition to specialized emergency groups such as WICEN, it was desirable that as many amateurs as possible should be encouraged to improve their emergency communication skills. Accordingly, the WIA is offering training and a nationally recognized qualification for amateurs. Many amateurs have indicated their wish to participate.

AUSTRALIA (2) In addition to the qualification, the WIA will accredit those who are qualified and wish to be registered as a WIA Emergency Communication Operator. This accreditation will take into account matters such as age and health. This means that more amateurs will have better skills to use their own equipment or can work as relief operators for the emergency and other services.
