OBJECTIVE: WARM-UP: Give the basic definition for a physical change & a chemical change. Demonstrate knowledge of physical & chemical changes.

Physical Change Physical changes – Just a change in appearance, no new substance made. Physical property changes could include a change in: texture, shape, size, color, volume, mass, weight, and density.

Chemical Change Chemical changes- A change where a new substance is made & it has at least one indicator 5 Indicators: Temperature change, Color change, Gas produced, Light Produced, Precipitate Now let’s check your homework!

Study Guide Cut & Paste Activity 1.Fold your colored construction paper in half & draw a line on the fold line 2.Cut out & glue on top ½ of each section. titles Definitions Signs of this change What Happens 3. Cut out examples & glue on correct half of chart. Physical Change Chemical Change

Which statement is true about an exothermic reaction 1.Absorbs energy 2.Releases energy 3.Requires no energy 4.Container becomes colder

Which of the following is NOT an indicator of a chemical reaction? 1.Bubbles 2.Size change 3.Temperature change 4.Precipitate

During a chemical change a new substance is formed. 1.True 2.False

Which of the following would increase the rate of reaction? 1.Reducing heat/cooling 2.Larger particle size 3.Adding an inhibitor 4.Smaller particle size

A solid that forms from 2 liquids is called a … 1.Sublimation 2.Precipitate 3.Evaporate 4.Condensate

Which of the following is an example of a chemical change? 1.Melting butter 2.Mixing milk & chocolate syrup 3.Burning wood 4.Breaking glass
