October 27th/29th 2004, Barcelona, Spain October 4th/6th 2006, Lyon, France History of EESD Barcelona Declaration

Coming up: EESD 2008 EESD Bridging the Gap Biannual EESD Conference 22nd to 24th September, 2008 Hosted by Graz Technical University Graz, Austria

EESD - Observatory The initiative is organized through an “Observatory” bringing together three of the leading EESD research universities in Europe and in association with the international AGS (Alliance for Global Sustainability). It is an international research and policy development alliance which aims to rank, develop, communicate and explain new and emerging ideas about EESD by a website and a biannual report. The Observatory provides an international strategic information tracking and sharing service on EESD based in experiences and evidences of what works. The Observatory is founded on the presumption that there is considerable work to be done to enable engineering education institutions to benefit fully from emerging research and learning about how best to integrate ESD.

Observatory Objectives To report internationally the state in EESD. To design, manage and assess a system for compilation, evaluation, storage and dissemination of knowledge on EESD. To set up a network with other partners (EFS, AGS, DHO, SEFI, UNESCO,....) worldwide in order to exchange information, experience and follow common methodologies where applicable and to minimise duplication of efforts. To serve as a platform for reporting best practices and case studies in EESD and Research on EESD.

Observatory Report The report will present an overview and assessment of EESD status in European Technological Universities. Based on: Annual reports, Questionnaires on compulsory and integrated credits, policies, best practices in ESD. The report will provide a biannual ranking for the 200 universities in EESD both globally and in specific areas (ie: industrial ecology, industrial design, ICT…). The report will contain observations and descriptions on developments in EESD. The report will support and underpin the Barcelona Declaration.

The Report What do we expect the report to do? Provide European Technological Universities with a goal for change, with clear and measurable indicators and criteria. Increase the recognition of the importance of EESD to universities, industry and society.

Observatory website The Website will be the permanent and visible outreach of the Observatory Website structure Home: sitemap, contact, Steering Group Members, Intranet News & Events: previous and upcoming events, news Publications: Barcelona Declaration, Reports, newsletters, presentations, others Database: EESD Conferences, Observatory surveys, links to case studies, best practices, etc.
