VOLUME GRADE 3

Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on Volume.

Volume Volume is defined as the amount of space that a 3-Dimensional figure encloses.

Volume Volume is the number of cubes it takes to fill a space. Example – The Volume of the following 3-Dimensional space is 3 cubic units

Exploring the Volume Volume is the product of length, width and height. Volume of the given figure is length x width x height length Width height

Model to find Volume Step 1: Count the cubic units in the shape. Step 2: The number of cubic units in the rectangular prism is the volume.

Find the Volume of the rectangular prism given below. Answer- 10 cubic units

Find the Volume of a box that is 4 units long, 2 units wide and 2 units high. Solution – Volume of the box is length x width x height = 4 x 2 x 2 = 16 cubic units

Let us practice some questions now!

What is the volume of the figure given below? Answer – 6 cubic units

Which has more volume? 5 inches 12 inch 5 inch AB Answer - B

What is the unit of the figure if dimensions of the figure are in cm? a) Cubic unit b) Cubic m c) Cubic cm d) Any of the above

It is not possible to find the volume of a) Square b) Cube c) Cuboids d) None of these

How the volume of the cube can be found if only one side is given? Answer – side x side x side

ASSESSMENT

1.Say True or False a) Any two 3-Dimesnsional figures can have same volume. b) No two 3- Dimensional figures have same volume. Answer- a) True b) False

2.How many layers of the cubes are there in the figure given below? Answer- one

3.Hay made the sculpture with wooden blocks, What is the volume of the sculpture? Answer – 9 cubic units

4.If 4 unit cubes are joined together, what is the volume of the resulting cuboids? Answer – 4 cubic units

5.There are 4 unit cubes in the first layer and has 3 layers of cubes, what is the volume of the box? Answer – 12 cubic units

6.Explore the Volume of the figure given below. Answer – 9 cubic units

7.Find the Volume in cubic units. Answer – 6 cubic units

8.A ring box is 4 inches long, 4 inches wide and 5 inches high. What is the Volume of the box? Answer – 80 cubic inch

9.Find the Volume of the figure given below. Answer – 100 cubic units

10.What is the Volume of the figure with length of 4 m, width of 7 m? a) 28 cubic m b) 82 cubic m c) Both a and b d) Information is insufficient
