Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges SOC Degree Network Student Agreements: SOCAD Student Agreement Overview and GoArmyEd A SOCAD Training Module 2013

SOC DNS Student Agreements (SOCAD Student Agreements) Contract for Degree Counseling Tool Recognized across the Services In many ways, the Student Agreement is at the center of the DNS process .This counseling tool, recognized across the Services is also a contract for degree between the student and the institution. The traditional SOCAD Student Agreement is a paper document; the form can be down-loaded from the SOCAD Web site The SOCAD Student Agreement is also embedded in GoArmyEd

The SOCAD Student Agreement The SOCAD Student Agreement serves as a “contract for degree” between the college and the student The SOCAD Student Agreement should identify the degree, degree requirements, SOC Course Category Codes that apply The SOCAD Student Agreement should reflect a formal evaluation of prior learning and a clear statement of remaining degree requirements Credit awarded for MOS or Service School, from testing, and from transfer from other colleges should be reflected on the SOCAD Student Agreement The SOCAD Student Agreement should be written when the eligible student has completed two or three courses toward the degree after selecting the degree Completing SOCAD Student Agreements for eligible students is an important responsibility of a college’s participation in SOCAD;; directions can be found in Chapter 4 of the SOC DNS Handbooks and on the SOC Web site

Preparing the Student Agreement Prepared by the SOCAD college for all military students seeking undergraduate degrees The college writes Student Agreements for all Handbook-listed degrees Core college may write “open network” Student Agreements Who should receive a Student Agreement? All active-duty servicemembers Army National Guard, Reservists (active-duty and not) Spouses and college-aged children of servicemembers (active or reserve component) A SOCAD college can write a Student Agreement for military students in other services SOCAD schools that are not LOI schools will create all of their SOCAD Student Agreements in the traditional manner; SOCAD colleges that are LOI schools may create electronic Student Agreements through GoArmyEd for degrees that are fully-developed in GoArmyEd and SOCAD Student Agreements for all other degrees

Preparing the Student Agreement (cont) How to complete the traditional Student Agreement Chapter 4 of the DNS-2 or DNS-4 Handbook includes detailed instructions Instructions are also available on the SOCAD Web site The form itself can be down-loaded from the SOCAD Web site GoArmyEd electronic SOCAD Student Agreements If the student has an account in GoArmyEd (currently: active-duty Soldiers and Reservists), either a traditional SOCAD Student Agreement or an electronic SOCAD Student Agreement will be required by the GoArmyEd system If the degree being sought is fully-developed within the GoArmyEd portal, the SOCAD college uses Student Agreement interface procedures for creating the SOCAD Student Agreement electronically The next several slides show how SOCAD Student Agreements are processed LOI colleges with questions about their SOCAD Student Agreements should discuss these issues with their Academic Liaison The SOCAD Project Director is also available to discuss any SOCAD Student Agreement issue or problem

Student Agreements and GoArmyEd For SOCAD schools that are not LOI colleges: Soldier scans the Student Agreement into his or her GoArmyEd e-file College completes appropriate Student Agreement on traditional (“paper”) SOCAD Student Agreement form The ESO approves the e-filed Student Agreement College sends copy to SOC

Student Agreements and GoArmyEd For SOCAD schools that are LOI colleges and if the degree is fully developed within GoArmyEd: ESO approves degree when the Soldier selects it within GoArmyEd The Student Agreement is generated and recorded within GoArmyEd College creates the Student Agreement within GoArmyEd using the Student Agreement interface The GoArmyEd system sends a copy of the electronically generated Student Agreement to SOC

Student Agreements and GoArmyEd For SOCAD schools that are LOI college and if degree is not fully-developed in the GoArmyEd portal (drop-down or not listed) College completes appropriate Student Agreement on the traditional (“paper”) SOCAD Student Agreement ” form Soldier scans the Student Agreement into his or her GoArmyEd e-file The ESO approves the e-filed Student Agreement College sends copy to SOC
