EWG46 2.b. APERC President’s Report - 2/12 APEC Energy Demand & Supply Outlook The “APERC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook” project is a priority task of APERC under the APEC Energy Action Programme adopted by leaders in 1995 Help facilitate APEC cooperation by providing policymakers with –A useful reference work on energy in the APEC region –A statistically-supported review of the long-term challenges and opportunities facing the APEC economies individually and as a region –Provide useful suggestions and inspiration to policymakers in APEC economies who wish to pursue more sustainable energy policies –Demonstrate the benefits that alternative policies might have on energy security, environmental protection, energy costs, etc.

EWG46 2.b. APERC President’s Report - 3/12 APEC Energy Demand & Supply Outlook The 5th edition of the ”APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook” was published in February It is available on APERC website APERC conducted a series of workshops for knowledge sharing in South-East Asia and Latin America in April and May 2013.

EWG46 2.b. APERC President’s Report - 4/12 APEC Energy Demand & Supply Outlook APERC has started preparatory research activities for the 6th edition to be published in Model enhancements planned for  Macroeconomic projections  Light vehicle fleet projections  Electricity supply  Industrial energy demand Special Topics being investigated include  Barriers to Shale Gas Development  Barriers to Geothermal Electricity Development  Barriers to Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Development  Benefits of Grid Interconnection in Northeast Asia  Space Cooling as a Economic Development Goal

EWG46 2.b. APERC President’s Report - 5/12 APEC Energy Overview  The “APEC Energy Overview” series started in 2000 with the approval of EWG-19, in order to help policymakers to share useful information and deepen understanding on energy issues in the APEC region.  The Overview is an annual publication, which contains updated energy demand/supply data as well as descriptions of energy policy and ‘Notable Energy Developments’.  Drafting of the 2013 Edition is now in progress, and will be published in January N.B Edition is available at;
