A “CANTILEVER” EXPERIENCE OF LARGE PROPORTIONS Pinocchio's Nose

Cantilevers A beam supported with only one end. Are used to carry loads in engineering and building.

A support from one end Loads can be supported using cantilevers and are made out of many kinds of materials

Activity For this activity, you will construct a cantilever made out of newspaper, tape and string and attach it to your nose. *You can not use your hands to support it!! We will test each cantilever with the following team challenges: 1. length: (which team has the longest nose?) 2. mobility: walk down hall, climb stairs, 10 jumping jacks, 3. soccer: can you play soccer with it on? (Part of this can be used in your Rube Goldberg machine.)
