A republic is a form of government where citizens choose their leaders and people have an impact on government. The word "republic" Latin: publica -a public affair.

Executive Branch

The two leaders of the executive branch, the consuls, were elected for just one year by the eligible citizens. 1. They supervised the Senate 2. They were in charge of Roman Army Other members of the Executive were heads of committies (taxation, police, mayor, engineering, etc)

Legislative Branch

The most powerful part of the legislative branch was the Senate Senate: landowners appointed by the Consuls - - ‘Ratified’ the Consuls decisions or denied them

Roman Judicial Branch Roman Judicial Branch: The Roman Judicial Branch consisted of six judges who were elected every two years. Their job was to decide on punishments for criminals. Not much is known about the Judicial Branch because all that we can really assume is that it is very similar to that of ours today. What we do know is that the laws of the Romans are known as the Twelve Tables.
