Fried carp with potato salad Typical Czech Christmas Eve dinner

Fried carp ingredients: carp flour salt and pepper lemon oil butter

The majority of Czech households will choose fried carp and potato salad for their Christmas Eve dinner. This must be one of the most widespread and common traditions alongside decorating the actual Christmas tree, even though both are relatively new – just like the decorated evergreen tree, carp with potato salad only began its tradition in the mid 19th century.

How to make it: 1.First wash and dry the carp. 2.Cut the carp along the spine into pieces. 3.Squeeze the lemon into the pieces and put to the fridge for a while. 4.Then add salt and pepper. 5.Coat the pieces in the flour. 6.Fry the carp in the hot oil on both sides. 7.Serve with potato salad on Christmas Eve.

Potato salad ingredients: Potatoes Carrots Peas Apple Mayonaise Salt and pepper Mustard Onion Eggs Parsley Pickled gherkins oil

How to make it: 1.Cook potatoes in boiling water and peel them. 2.When they are cold cut them into pieces. 3.Cook vegetables and eggs in boiling water. 4.Cut vegetables, apples, eggs into small pieces. 5.Add salt, pepper, mayonaise and mustard. 6.Mix all together in a bowl. 7.Put in a fridge and leave it there over the night. 8.Serve it on another day.
