C ONCEPT 2: S TORY E LEMENTS In your learning log….. 1. What is a story? An account of incidents or events 2. What are elements? The things that are naturally suited for something 3. Now that you know what a story is and what elements are, define story elements in your own words. Story elements are the things that are naturally suited for ALL stories. The basic elements are plot, character, setting, and theme. The plot usually revolves around a problem or conflict that is presented at the beginning of the story and resolved at the end. The ability to identify the elements of a story aids in comprehension, leads to a deeper understanding and appreciation of stories, and helps students learn to write stories of their own.
