Finger Nails Keep the nails on your fretting hand short. This will enable you to use the tips of your fingers when holding down chords and single notes. The nails on your strumming or plucking hand can be short if you intend to use a plectrum. However some players use their nails for finger picking. If you aspire to this style you can grow you nails on this hand.
