Sights Although Bratislava is one of the youngest capitals of the world, its history goes back to ancient times. Over the centuries, was replaced by several denominations: from the Latin Possonium, German Pressburg, Pozsony to Hungarian Slovak folk form of Pressburg. This calculation is enough to realize how many peoples and nations left their profound imprint on this attractive place. For centuries here in conformity living side by side Slovaks, Hungarians, Germans, Jews and many others. Their track breathe to visitors and tourists of the historic buildings and picturesque streets of the historic center.

Bratislava Castle Landmark of the capital, Bratislava castle rises on a hill above the old town. The first written mention of the city dates from 907 and is located in Salzburg annals in connection with a battle Bavarians and Hungarians. Castle hillock was settled in the late Stone Age and the first known inhabitants were the Celts, who had founded a fortified residence called "The settlement".

Cathedral sv. Martina Gothic cathedral built on the site of the original Romanesque church recalls the glory of Bratislava, where the coronation city of Hungarian kings.

Maximilian Fountain Maximilian fountain, also known as Ronald fountain was built in 1572 in the Austrian stone workshop of Andreas Lutringera financial contribution of King Maximilian II. It consists of a massive circular tank with a diameter of 9 meters, in the middle of which stands 10.5 meters high column with a statue of a knight in armor. Statue reportedly shows knight Roland, a legendary defender of city rights. It is said also that knight in armor represents Maximilian II.

Fountain St. Juraja Primate's Palace ( ) was built instead of the original palace belonging to the archbishop of Esztergom. The facade of the palace is in strictly classical style. Shield adorned with allegorical statues by J. Kögler and F. Prokop as well as vases from J. A. Messerschmidt. On top of the tympanum is the coat of arms of cardinal Joseph Batthyanyi, the first occupant of the palace. The building is decorated with a model of his iron hat weighing 150 kg.

Michael's Tower Dome, yet tasteful copper roof of Michael's Gate is one of the symbols of Bratislava. The roof of the original Gothic tower from the mid-14th Century adjusted to its present Baroque appearance in the years 1753 to 1758.

Franciscan Church and Monastery The oldest sacral monument in Bratislava (13th cent. ), Hidden behind the baroque facade of the Church of the Annunciation. The monastery has witnessed many historic events. In the Middle Ages, and was elected mayor in Hungarian assembly elected for the first Habsburg King of the Hungarian throne - Ferdinand of Habsburg.
