13 Purpose of the Plan: DOCKLANDS PUBLIC REALM PLAN Provide a strategic companion document to the Docklands Design and Construction Standards for Public Infrastructure Works (City of Melbourne 2012). Outline the value of the public realm. Provide an overview of challenges and opportunities in the Docklands context. Provide clarity to developers, designers and government regarding long-term strategies, principles and guidelines for the design and programming of public streets and spaces. Demonstrate how design principles may be applied to streets and spaces. Provide briefing notes for the design of key public spaces. Provide a checklist of design principles. Identify future projects for public spaces and streets.

OTHER DOCKLANDS PROJECTS Part of an $8M City of Melbourne budget commitment for 2012/13: Docklands Wayfinding Signage Parks Renewal Program – Docklands and new assets Docklands – Infrastructure renewal Pedestrian/bicycle link from West Melbourne to Docklands Northbank Promenade link (associated with Jim Stynes Bridge) Plus a range of smaller scale projects including completion of the Docklands Community Garden Shelter and the Multipurpose Court as well as supporting initiatives such as Alma Doepel restoration 24
