Edom and the World of Pride

Edom and the World of Pride Who are the Edomites? Esau was the father. These are the “brothers” of Israel who would not let them pass through (Numbers 20:14–21).

Edom and the World of Pride What does Scripture say about them in prophecy? Isaiah (34–35) contrasts them as spiritually dead with the redeemed. These are the ones of whom God speaks when pride is condemned (Obadiah).

Edom and the World of Pride How is the sin of pride handled in the Old Testament? As opposed to righteous: (Psalm 119:51,69,85; 123:4; Jeremiah 13:15-17) The fruit: (Proverbs 11:2; 13:10; 16:18; 29:23) God’s attitude: (Psalm 119:21; Proverbs 6:17) The pride of nations: (Zechariah 10:11; Jeremiah 50:29-32; Ezekiel 30:6; etc.)

Edom and the World of Pride What does the New Testament say about pride? The word is only used 3 times, but there are a lot of synonyms. Jesus came into a world of pride, but He was different (Philippians 2:5–7). Spirit inspired writers continued the message (1 Corinthians 13:4–7; 1 John 4:19–20).
