Presentation transcript:

Sixth Form Strand of the QTL team Rationale: January (2011) inspection along with a teacher and student questionnaires revealed some areas for improvement in sixth form teaching. Initial emphasis has been on the passivity of sixth form students. Vision for the strand: To provide students with the facilities and guidance, in and out of lessons, to achieve academic success but also develop life skills.

Order of events for today’s twilight session… 1.Quick overview of the Sixth Form strand – putting today’s session into context 2.Explanation for today’s session 3.A ‘lateral’ paired task 4.Brief Break with snacks 5.Feedback from the paired task 6.Sharing resources

What we hope you get from today’s session a)A taste of what the sixth form strand is trying to promote b)Ideas to implement within your own department/lessons c)Opportunity to give your thoughts on the work that’s being carried out by the sixth form strand

So what’s been done so far…. 1.Within the sixth form strand we have 3 sub-strands a)Rooming b)Tool-Kit c)Independence As a strand we have been trialling and introducing ideas to support our vision

What we have achieved so far…. We’ve created an area on the ‘QTL website’ where we are sharing teaching ideas; including AfL techniques, plenary and starter ideas. We have transformed some of the teaching spaces in Tetherdown building most notably in T25 (the new Politics Room) and Sociology’s corridor

Teacher survey findings:

Promoting independent learning among sixth form students Rationale: Students passivity was identified from the teacher’s survey and mock ofsted as an area to address.

What? How? Why? Habit Knowing what to do = awareness Knowing how to do it = skill Knowing why to do it = motivation
