Making an Eco-column This presentation demonstrates the steps for setting up an eco-column.

1. Cut bottom off of 2 liter bottle.

2.Place screen over opening and secure with rubber band. 3.Pour 1 cup of gravel in bottom of terrarium. 4.Pour 2 cups of potting soil over gravel.

5.Divide soil into 4 sections. 6.Place rock, twigs, and dead leaf matter in one section. 7.Plant grass seeds, mustard seeds, and alfalfa seeds into other 3 sections.

8.Cut top section off of second 2 liter bottle to make aquarium.

9. Add 2 cups of gravel to bottom of aquarium. 10. Add drinking water to aquarium, fill up to 5 cm from top of aquarium.

11. Plant elodea in bottom of aquarium. 12. Add duckweed and algae to water.

You are ready to add the animals to both environments, as directed in lesson plan.
