The Alligator Snapping Turtle By Nicole Smith

Alligator Snapping Turtle The Alligator Snapping Turtle can weigh up to 200 pounds or more. It is the worlds largest fresh water turtle. The turtle’s shell can grow to 26 inches.

Characteristics of Alligator Snapping turtles There color is carapace brown or gray with 3 knobby ridges. The head is large with a strongly hooked beak; and rather long tail. Its said to be more sedentary than its relative the snapping turtle, and is larger than the snapping turtle.

Habitat and Food The turtle’s habitat includes lakes sloughs and deep rivers. They can only be found in North America and in the southern eastern tip. This hefty reptile feeds on worms and other kinds of turtle. When catching food it wiggling its worm like to tongue to lure in the bait.
