Physical Geography of Russia

Ural Mountains The Ural Mountains are a mountain range that is the natural boundary that separates Europe and Asia.

Lake Baikal Largest natural lake in Russia and the Eastern Hemisphere.

Lake Onega Lake Onega is located in the north-west of the European side of Russia. It is also a basin of the Baltic sea and Atlantic Ocean. It is the second biggest lake in Russia.

Kola Peninsula Kola Peninsula is located in the northwest of Russia. It comprises most of the Territory Murmansk Oblast.

Sayan Mountains The Sayan Mountains are a mountain range located in Siberia, Russia near Lake Baikal.

Volga River The Volga river starts at the Caspian sea and goes through St. Petersburg, Russia.

Sea of Okhotsk The Sea of Okhotsk is a marginal sea located in the pacific ocean. It is between the Kamchatka Peninsula and the coast of Siberia, Russia.

Kamchatka Peninsula The Kamchatka Peninsula is in the Far east Russia and is located between the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Okhotsk.

Ural River The Ural River is a river that flows through Kazakhstan and Russia. This river also goes through the southern Ural Mountains and into the Caspian Sea.

Berents Sea The Berents Sea is located north of Norway and Russia. It also used to go by the name of Murman Sea.

Moscow Moscow is the capital city in Russia and this building is St. Basil Cathedral which is located in Moscow, Russia.

St. Petersburg St. Petersburg is a city in Russia that was the capital of the Russian Empire until the Soviet Revolution. It also once had the names of Leningrad and Petrograd, but now they call it St. Petersburg. This city was founded by Tsar Peter the 1 st of Russia.

Siberia Siberia is a district that is located in the central eastern part of Russia. Siberia extends eastwards from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific and Arctic Oceans.

Far Eastern Russia Far Eastern Russia is a district that is obviously located in the Far Eastern part of Russia. It stretches all the way to the Pacific ocean. It is also mistaken as being part of Siberia.

The Volga Region The Volga Region is a district in Russia located in the region of the largest river in Russia, the Volga river.

Northwestern Russia Northwestern Russia is a district that is located north of the east flowing part of the Volga River.

Trans-Siberian Railroad The Trans-Siberian Railroad is a railway that is connected to Moscow, Russia with Far East Russia and the Sea of Japan.

Central Russia Central Russia is a district located west of Russia near the Country of Ukraine.

Natural Resources The major natural resources in Russia are, coal, petroleum, natural gas, and iron ore. Russia is also one of the top oil producers in the world.

Agriculture Large farms in Russia mainly produce grain and live stock. Some small and private farms mainly produce vegetables, fruit, and potatoes. Fishing is another big contributor, in 2005 the total fish caught was 3,191,068 tons.

The Regions that most oil is located Most of Russia’s oil is located in the western part of Russia. There is also oil in the south, north and southwest as well. These are the districts where oil is located: Urals, some in Siberia, Volga Region and Southern Russia or the Caucus Region. Russia produces 9.67 million gallons a day.

Coal Mines Coal in Russia is mostly located in the eastern and southeastern part of Russia but there is a mine in western part too. These are the districts of Russia where coal is located: southeastern Siberia, southeastern and eastern Far Eastern Russia and Central Russia which is located near Ukraine and Belarus. This is coal mine after a coal mine blast in Russia.

Farming In Russia most of the farming is located in the southern and northwestern part of Russia. These are the districts that farming is most common: South Russia or the Caucasus Region, Volga Region, Northwest Russia, Central and the southern part of Urals. Wheat is grown a lot in Russia

Manufacturing In Russia there isn't a lot of manufacturing places, but they have some that are located mostly in the western part of Russia. These are the districts manufacturing is located: Northwestern Russia, Central, Urals, Volga Region and the Caucasus Region. This is a manufacturing plant in Russia.

Forestry In Russia forestry is very big. Forestry in Russia is located from the northwest through the eastern part of Russia. These are the districts that forestry is located: Northwestern Russia, Urals Region, Siberia and Far Eastern Russia.

Nuclear Power Nuclear power plants in Russia are mainly located in the western Part of the Country. These are the districts they are located in : Northwestern Russia, Central, Volga Region, Urals Region and Caucasus Region. This is a nuclear power plant in Russia.
