Schedule

Schedule There will be 3 groups of 10 students Over three days students will be exposed to various aspects of the aviation industry including air traffic control, security, maintenance, fire suppression, and actually piloting an aircraft. Students will be given the chance to directly interact with industry professionals on the job in a safe environment

Schedule

What about the tours? glad you asked…

Airport Tours Kelowna Flightcraft RCMP Air Division Skyline Helicopters Northern Air Support Carson Air/SIFC Alpine Helicopters Shell FBO Control Tower Firehall Airport Ops/Security Westjet Okanagan Aero Engine

Kelowna Flightcraft This large, primarily maintenance based company headquartered right here at Kelowna International Airport offers a tour of their facilities including: aircraft overhauls and modifications, engine rebuilds and flight operations including training. Currently the 3 rd largest airline in Canada, you will get to see large cargo airplanes up close and personal as well as Boeing 737s operated by flightcraft’s in house charter operation, Flair Airlines. Ever wondered what a jet engine being worked on by maintenance crews looks like up close? This is your chance to find out!

Carson Air, Southern Interior Flight Centre and Shell FBO Get to know SIFC and our parent company, Carson Air, during a tour of the flight school (including simulators and aircraft), the private aircraft at the Shell hangar and our maintenance division. This is a great opportunity to see real serviceable aircraft of many different types, as well as aircraft currently being worked on by maintenance personnel.

Okanagan Aero Engine This is a tour of Okanagan Aero Engine, which is a company that specializes in inspecting and repairing piston aircraft engines. Here you will get to see engines in various stages of repair, including non destructive testing (NDT). This is good way to become familiar with what goes on behind the scenes when smaller piston engines are being overhauled.

Airport Firehall This isn’t your everyday firefighting operation. Meet the highly trained personnel working here and get a look at the large airport firefighting equipment up close including a demonstration of the water cannons on the new firetruck. In addition, you will also get to see the other side of the firefighter’s responsibilities, including runway friction testing and snow removal.

Control Tower Check out what happens on the ground from an air traffic controller’s perspective. This fast paced, rewarding career involves using the latest high tech equipment to safely move aircraft in and out of busy airports. See and interact with the controllers at work, issuing instructions to pilots flying small, single engine Cessnas all the way up to Westjet 737s taxiing, taking off, and landing.

Airport Ops and Security Ensuring the safety of aircraft and the travelling public is no small responsibility. Get a look at airport security from the staff’s perspective, including x-ray machines and full body scanners. As well, a tour of the terminal and an overview of what operations personnel have to do to keep everything running as smoothly as possible.

Alpine, Skyline, Northern Air Support In addition to the fixed wing side of aviation, we have representatives from major rotary wing (helicopter) operations based right here in Kelowna! Northern Air Support, Skyline and Alpine Helicopters will be on hand to run tours, display helicopters and talk about career opportunities in this side of the field. Alpine helicopters will be flying one of their Bell 212s over as an added bonus.

Simulator and Flying As well as the variety of tours we have scheduled for the conference, we will also be taking each student into the Frasca 142 multi- engine instrument flight simulator. After this, each student will get the chance to get behind the controls of one of our G1000 equipped Cessna 172S for ½ hour of flight time which counts towards obtaining a Private Pilot License!

Career Fair and Awards Ceremony At the end of the third day there will be a career fair with the various companies involved in the conference available to answer questions and provide information related specifically to their aspect of the industry and their company. Concluding the final day there will be an awards ceremony with prizes. See you all there!
