LONGHORN OKRA PLANTS LONGHORN OKRA PLANTS By: James Chris Eric Mickey

Knowledge About Our Plants  The scientific name of our plant is Abelmoschus esculentus or Hibiscus esculentus  The place of origin of our plant is Egypt  We bought our okra seeds from Jim’s Nursery.  It took about 6 days for our plants to germinate.  The soil depth of our plants is two inches.  We did not need to space our seeds out because of the pots we planted them in.  It takes about 90 to 140 days to harvest the Longhorn okra that our group is growing.

Objective ¤ Our objective was to give the plants each a different amount of water. ¤ To determine which amount of water made okra grow the fastest.

The Methods Used For Our Plants The Methods Used For Our Plants  First, we put about two inches of soil in a planting pot.  Then, we put four seeds in each of the three finger holes and covered them up with dirt.  We watered them every other day according to the amount of water that we decided to give them. We also took them in and out of the classroom for the sunlight.

Conclusions Our plants grew as we expected, the plants that had the most water grew the fastest. The plants that had the least amount of water grew the slowest. Our plants grew as we expected, the plants that had the most water grew the fastest. The plants that had the least amount of water grew the slowest. We discovered that different amounts water can affect how fast okra plants grow. We discovered that different amounts water can affect how fast okra plants grow. Plant C (20 ml) had the biggest slope ~1 and grew the fastest. Plant A (10 ml) had the smallest slope and it grew the slowest. Plant C (20 ml) had the biggest slope ~1 and grew the fastest. Plant A (10 ml) had the smallest slope and it grew the slowest. No other groups grew okra, but our plants growth rate was larger than any other plants grown. No other groups grew okra, but our plants growth rate was larger than any other plants grown.

Conclusions Next time we would make the different amounts of water perhaps to include 30, 40, or 50 ml of water. Will these amounts also show the same trend observed in the 10ml, 15ml, 20ml?
