ENCORE ACADEMY PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS

DRAFT REFLECTIONS - A regular high school with an artsy name. - Unsure how to integrate arts and design into core classes while still covering content. - Encore was the ‘default school’ if a student did not feel like they fit in anywhere else. - Therefore, passion for the arts was lacking. - Many students talented in the arts and design. - Expose every student in Encore to Performance Art, Visual Art, and Communications. - Direct students to select a strand and focus on it toward post-secondary education.

DRAFT OUR VISION  Staff meeting activity: What is our vision of an Encore graduate?  My interpretation of our staff’s vision: ways_2 ways_2  Our pathways were designed with this vision in mind. DRAFT GOALS OF ENCORE PATHWAYS  New graduation requirements, beginning with this year’s freshmen, are designed to prepare students for college and/or careers.  Realistic options for ALL students that incorporate the original mission and vision of Encore Academy.  Variety in pathways allows students to succeed based on individual passions, strengths, and abilities.  All students will choose a pathway in 9 th grade. Electives and foundational classes throughout the 9 th and 10 th grade years will prepare students for choosing a focused pathway in 11 th and 12 th grade.

DRAFT MEDIA ARTS PATHWAY Option 3: Mosaic  Founded in 1990, it has been recognized as one of Ohio’s Best Practices by Ohio’s Education Partnership.  College preparatory program serving high school juniors and seniors from public schools across Franklin County.  Implementing a project-based, integrated humanities curriculum, the Mosaic Program challenges students to become analytic thinkers, effective communicators, successful collaborators, and responsible citizens.  Students prepare for life in the global society by pursuing in-depth research projects, examining international connections in Central Ohio, engaging with the local arts community, and making major presentations in a variety of forums.

DRAFT MEDIA ARTS PATHWAY Option 3: Mosaic Requirements  Application process including recommendation from teacher, counselor, or principal.  Seats based on attendance, work completion, and behavior  Seats reserved for those students who can work independently. be a leader for their peers and in the community. serve others with integrity and empathy. Students will take their core coursework for half of the day at Encore and then earn additional social studies credits and elective credits for the Mosaic coursework. This is a rigorous, college preparatory program.
