7 Project Lead The Way is the nation's leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. Through world-class K-12 curriculum, high-quality teacher professional development, and outstanding partnerships, PLTW is helping students develop the skills needed to succeed in the global economy.

8 Designed for 9th grade students interested in pursing a career in the field of math, science or engineering design. According to a survey of PLTW students at the end of their senior year, 70% indicated that they intend to study engineering, technology, computer science, or another applied science, and 93% intend to pursue at least a two-year or four- year degree after high school. 9 During the first year of implementation, PLTW schools are required to offer at least one of the foundation courses and ultimately implement both foundation courses and one or more of the five specialization courses and/or capstone course. These courses complement traditional mathematics and science courses and can serve as the foundation for STEM- centered or specialized academies. The program is designed to prepare students to pursue a post-secondary education and careers in STEM-related fields.

10 Foundation Course Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) 9 th Grade The major focus of IED is the design process and its application. Through hands-on projects, students apply engineering standards and document their work. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work using an engineer’s notebook, and communicate solutions to peers and members of the professional community.

11 Following the Foundation Course (IED) Principles Of Engineering 10 th Grade Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.

14 The career programs at Jefferson College Area Technical School (ATS) help students begin preparation for a great career while still in high school. Classes are split into morning and afternoon sections, each session consisting of a two hour block. Morning classes meet daily beginning at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. Afternoon classes begin at 12 p.m. and continue until 2 p.m.

16 Students are accepted to the Area Technical School based on a number of objective criteria that have been established by each instructor. These criteria are based on critical academic or course preparation pre-requisites that have proven to be the foundation necessary for a student to experience success in the program. These criteria include grade point average, attendance, course preparation, and prior ATS program completion.

19 CCE = Cooperative Career Education Must be enrolled in CCE class Learn work based skills - teamwork, leadership, workplace ethics Units include: Taxes, Legalities in the Workplace, Business Math, etc.

21 SBE = Supervised Business Experience Must be enrolled in Business Tech. II Prerequisites preferred: Computer Apps I, II or Business Tech I Computer-based class : Desktop Publishing, Photoshop, Illustrator 3 college credit hours available through Missouri Baptist University

22 Marketing Internship Must be enrolled in Marketing I or II class Learn marketing strategies Prepare for college/work/smarter consumer Units include: Advertising, Sales, Entrepreneurship, Pricing, etc. 3 College credit hours available through Missouri State University in Marketing II
