Web 3.0: A Smarter Web? Web 3.0 is a term that has been coined with different meanings to describe the evolution of Web usage... These include transforming the Web into a database, a move toward making content accessible by multiple non- browser applications, the leveraging of artificial intelligence technologies... AKA the Semantic Web, the Geospatial Web or the 3D Web. »Wikipedia

Examples You’re having some lingering back pain. You could access a program that would determine a specialist’s availability, check an insurance site’s database for in- plan status, consult your calendar and schedule an appointment for you (simultaneously). You’re visiting a new city and you need dinner reservations. You could access a program that would look up restaurant reviews, check a map database, cross-reference open table times with your calendar and make a dinner reservation.

Will it happen? Arguments: Is it realistic to expect that busy people will create enough data (metadata) to make this work? Could this create a disconnect? Loss of human interaction – probably why a lot of developers are still investing in the more human interfaces. Could the ontologies (thesauri) designed to translate between different data descriptions realistically help computers understand human concepts?

Add videos, photos and blog entries that pertain to how libraries are using these sites. In the blog area, feature info about libraries you’ve found using these sites. Add a link to your blog if you like. AND/OR add a link from your site to your blog.
