Main Characters- Kendra Sorenson is a quiet, obedient, thirteen year old girl. When Grandpa gives her a set of keys, Kendra figures out the mystery behind them. And she loves her family. Seth Sorenson is a loud, disobedient, adventure-loving, eleven year old boy. He likes painting and trying to catch the fairies in the back yard.

Other important characters Grandpa Sorenson is the keeper of Fable haven. Grandma Sorenson is a golden chicken until Muriel breaks her spell. Muriel is a witch who wants to free the evil demon Bahumat. Lena is a former naiad, who gave up her life to live as a human for the man she loved.

Plot 13-year-old Kendra, and 11-year-old Seth Sorenson are traveling to their Grandpa and Grandma Sorenson's house while their parents are away on a 17-day Scandinavian cruise. When they get there, they also meet Dale, a worker on the preserve, and Lena, the housekeeper. Grandma Sorenson is "mysteriously" missing. Grandpa Sorenson doesn't tell Kendra and Seth about Fable haven being a secret preserve for magical creatures at first, but rather sets up a complex puzzle involving six keys and a locked journal for Kendra and Seth to solve. Once Kendra unlocks the journal, she discovers the words, "drink the milk". She and Seth drink the magical milk which opens their eyes to see a whole new, mystical world full of the magical beings of Fable haven. Now Kendra and Seth must face the challenges such as defeating an evil witch and a powerful demon, defending the preserve from an evil society, stopping a plague that changes creatures of light into creatures of darkness, and ultimately, protecting the world from a hoard of imprisoned demons.

A peek at the book. “He looks real,” said Seth. “What if he’s real?” “Why would a baby be on the roof?” The baby toddled to the window pressing a chubby palm against the glass. Something glinted in the light behind him. Seth shifted the beam onto a pair of green-eyed wolves approaching stealthily from the edge of the roof. The animals paused as the light fell on them. Both looked mangy and lean. One of the wolves bared sharp teeth, foam frothing from its mouth. The other was missing an eye. “They’re using him as bait!” Seth yelled. The baby looked back at the wolves, then turned back towards Seth and Kendra, bawling with a renewed vigor, fresh tears streaming, tiny hands slapping the windowpanes. The wolves charged. The toddler wailed. In her cage, Goldilocks clucked wildly. Seth threw opened the window. “No!” Kendra shouted, although she reflexively wanted to do the same thing.

Why should you read this book? This book is for both girls and boys, there is lots of action and the climax is actually good. The author puts the image into your head. There are some extremely funny parts, involving Seth, fairies, and a deformed walrus.
