 To try to think about what other people feel & how what they believe can influence & affect what they do.  Whilst you do this, you will also be completing a levelled task.

 Discuss in pairs & then feedback to the class…  What do you think these people saying to each other?  Think about the situations they are in, the people they are with & how they might be feeling.  Look at the expressions on their faces to give you some clues. … … … … … … … To complete this activity what did you have to think about?

What you’re going to do… For this levelled task you are going to have to imagine that you are somebody else. To do this try to block out all of your own thoughts & try to put yourself in the other person’s position. The teacher is going to read out 2 situations – listen carefully (what are different ways that you can listen carefully without being distracted?) & try to imagine that you are the person in the situation. After each situation has been read out, you will have a worksheet with questions to answer – you will have a time limit to complete each set of questions. You can use your books to help you with the questions if you want to, but really it’s all about imagining you’re the other person & answering the questions as if you were them. You’ll need to be quiet whilst answering the questions to give you time to think.

The levels that you’re aiming for… This is a levelled task – that means that although your work will still be marked with 2 *s & a wish, it will also be given a level. Have a look at your level trackers in the front of your books – what is the next level or the next part of a level that you’re aiming for? Read what you have to do to achieve it. In this task most people should aim for a level 5 mark – to get a level 5 mark in this task you need to…  Make links between the things that religious people believe & the things that they do.  Explain how the things that religious people believe affect their lives.  Explain how the way that you feel & your opinions affect your life.  Explain how other people’s feelings & the things that they do affect their lives.

Imagine that you are a 14 year old in a village in India You are sitting in the classroom in the village school that was built by the charity, Christian Aid. You are looking around the room. You see the rough walls which are brightly decorated with pupils’ work. You look at the small blackboard at the front with the reading exercise that you have just finished. You see the other pupils sitting at their small wooden desks; they are working. You are looking at your friend by the side of you who is struggling to learn to read. You are thinking of how until a few months ago your friend was working in a tiny, cramped factory, 12 hours a day, making cheap jewellery, for hardly any wages. You think of how Christian Aid now pays for you & your friend to be able to come to school. You look out of the window & you see some goats wandering in a field. You think of your own goats. You are thinking of the baby goats they had, which you sold. You are thinking of how proud you felt when you gave the money you made from selling the goats to your mother. You are thinking of the lady from Christian Aid who gave you the goats & how she explained that the goats had been paid for by a church in Wales. You are thinking of how the money from the goats helps your family to buy food, but you wonder why a church in a country so far away, would want to buy goats for you… Now answer the questions on the worksheet

Imagine that you are a Christian Aid worker in the slums in India You are watching Sreda, a 15 year old boy, playing cricket. He is standing with his bat in hand, waiting for his turn to play. You see him swing the bat & hit the ball over your head. You watch the joy & happiness on his face as he plays. You are thinking back to when you first met him. You remember his sad face & the tears in his eyes as he told you how he was homeless. You are remembering the remains of the small hut he once lived in. You see it burned, destroyed by the fire which took away all he had. You are remembering Sreda when he became ill – his fever & his vomiting, caused by having to live on the streets in the torrential rain. You suddenly turn to look at the new home he lives in. You are looking at the concrete walls, the tiled roof. You think of the question Sreda asked you when you said Christian Aid would help rebuild his home. He asked: ‘Why would you help me?’ You think of the answer you gave, you said: ‘Because God loves you & he thinks that you are special. You are worth so much to Him & I want you to see that through what I do for you.’ You turn to look at Sreda laughing & smiling again… Now answer the questions on the worksheet

Your aim for today’s lesson was to… To try to think about what other people feel & how what they believe can influence & affect what they do.  How have you thought about what other people feel?  How did it feel for you trying to imagine what another person would feel?  Do you think that what people believe affects their actions in life?  Do you think that this is a good or a bad thing?
