The Tiger Rising Kate DiCamillo Year Pub:2001 Genre: Realistic Fiction Oscar L. 2 nd Period

 The setting is taken place in two different places; 1. The school. It is important to the story because that is where the action is taken place. 2. The woods. This place is also important to the story because this is where the tiger is located in a cage locked up.

Character  Norton Threemonger: He is aggressive, mean and is a bully. He is a tall chubby kid that messes around with other kids. In this case it is Rob.  Sistine Bailey: She has long blonde hair with a pink dress. At first in the story she is mean, but after a couple of chapters, she gets nice and friendly.

The conflict in this story is that in the woods, there is a tiger locked up in a cage, and Rob talks Sistine into helping him let the tiger free. Then they successfully do that, but now Sistine wants to keep the tiger.

 Walking through the misty Florida woods one morning, twelve year old Rob Horton is stunned to find a tiger locked up in a cage. What’s more, on the same extraordinary day, he meets Sistine Bailey. As they learn to trust each other and, ultimately, to be friends.

The theme for this book is:  Stand up for others and be kind to them. 1. Rob told the girls that were messing around with Sistine to stop. 2. Rob took Sistine to go see the tiger. 3. He wanted to be friends with her.

Point of View This story is told from Third person omniscient. This helps the reader because they understand how the characters feel and the description of the characters.

Symbolism When Rob’s mother died, he felt that someone cut off a piece of his heart. In this story he does a flashback of his mothers funeral. But now that he is stunned about the tiger he is caught up with it and forgets about her mothers death.

Recommendation I recommend this book for several reasons: 1. It has short words on each page 2. Very interesting 3. You will be surprised So take a try on this book!
