Sports Speed for Coaches Course & Sports Science Award April 5 th & 6 TH & April 12 th & 13 th 2014 Manchester City Academy, Platt Lane Manchester Teaching perfect sprint mechanics for explosive sports speed.

This extensive course introduces coaches to world leading technical sessions to maximise performance in straight line, multidirectional speed, and reactive agility. These and combinations can be applied to any field or court based sport to unlock the true athletic potential of your players.

Learning Outcomes: How to quickly assess an athlete’s current mechanical efficiency in maximising speed How to identify weaknesses that contribute to a lack of speed on the court or field Perfect technique for both acceleration and speed Perfect technique for multidirectional and COD speed How to develop explosive strength (force) for speed Importance of recovery and regeneration for adaptation How to create a session plan for speed development

Content Synopsis Athlete functional mechanics - L earn how to decrease the risk of injuries by understanding hip, knee and ankle function in running. Gain an understanding of the stability and mobility required in joint structures and simple exercises to improve your athletes performance Mechanics in speed for explosive force - Learn the correct mechanics required including foot strike, foot recovery, change of direction mechanics including acceleration and deceleration. Acceleration and linear speed - A practical session where the coaches become the athletes and experience techniques and drills presented in the theory presentation relating to acceleration and straight line speed. Recovery and regeneration - Learn current practices in recovery and how to put simple after training / game techniques together for your athletes.

Resistance training for explosive force – (1)Learn the best modes of training to develop explosive force. Learn what equipment can be used in the gym, on the field / court. We will discuss the importance of resistance training to repeat sprint ability and explosive speed. (2) A practical session where the coaches become the athletes and experience techniques and drills presented in the theory presentation. Plyometrics and Core Strength – (1)Learn the science and application of plyometric training. Learn which exercises are appropriate for varying sports and positions and how to implement them safely into a weekly training unit. Learn the importance of the core as a foundation of maximum athletic performance, discover what the ‘new core’ looks like for athletic conditioning and best practice modes of development. Multidirectional speed & COD - A practical session where the coaches become the athletes and experience techniques and drills presented in the theory presentation relating to multidirectional and change of direction speed. Creating session plans - Learn how to put together your own speed and agility session plans for beginner, intermediate and advanced players. You will also receive take home examples. Your Trainer/Mentor Ranell has national and international qualifications relating to sport speed as well as currently training and competing at the highest international level for sprints. On a competition level Ranell is a multiple Australian and International champion in Masters Athletics in sprints & hurdles. Ranell’s qualifications, both locally and internationally, are extensive & include: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) Bachelor of Sports Science & Coaching, International ATFCA Advanced Event Level 3 Coach (Sprints, Hurdles, Relays), SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness) Trainer, Grad Dip in Adult Education (VET). Ranell is also the Head of Sport & Fitness WSI College, Sydney Australia and has won numerous awards in the field of education. ASSA Training Director & Head coach - Ranell Hobson has over 20 years experience in Sports Speed & Agility training and Coaching

Your Academy Manager His sporting career includes State and National titles in the sport of Swimming. Kip was also a Surf Life Saver, competing at State, National and International level whilst representing North Bondi SLSC. He made the final of the World Championships at Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast in Kip also qualified for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Trials, making the finals but not the Australian team. He then enjoyed a brief career in Law Enforcement, attending the 1990 Law Enforcement Olympics where he won 7 gold medals and set 5 new World Records, 2 of which still stand 24 years later. Kip has recently taken on the responsibility of growing knowledge of the ASSA program both domestically and abroad as he believes the programs are a benefit to every sports player. He also believes in building long-term relationships with sporting clubs and organisations and in fostering an environment of continuous education and training excellence for the betterment of all. ASSA Academy Manager Kip Hobson has over 15 years experience in Operations Planning Management for multi billion dollar corporations.
