God’s Plan of Salvation (3) Obeying the Gospel

Obedience ὑπακοή , (hypakon - noun), ὑπακούω (hypakou – verb) “a state of being in compliance” “to follow instructions” (BDAG) WE understand what obedience is – you do (or don’t do) what you are told, the way you are told and to the degree you are told.

Obedience Obedience in the Bible Children obey – Eph. 6:1 Servants obey – Col. 3:22 Wives obey – Titus 2:5 Obey our elders – Heb. 13:7 Obey government – Rom. 13:1 (be subject to)

Obedience Jesus, our greatest example: Romans 5:19, “…by one Man’s obedience, many were made righteous.” Phil. 2:8, “…became obedient to the point of death…” Heb. 5:8, “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience Cf. Matthew 26:36-44

Obeying the Gospel - faithfulness Obeying the gospel does not end when one becomes a Christian. It continues AS a Christian! A disciple will observe (obey) all things – Matthew 28:20 2 Corinthians 10:4-6, bringing every thought into the obedience of Christ 1 Peter 1:13-16, as obedient children…be holy

Obeying the Gospel - faithfulness Abiding in Him We live for Him and keep His word – John 8:31-32 John 14:15, 23-24 “if anyone loves Me he will keep (obey) My word…”

Obeying the Gospel - faithfulness One who can be counted upon to obey. Loyal and trusted Matthews 25:21, 23 1 Corinthians 4:2, “it is required of stewards that one be found faithful.” Revelation 2:10, “be faithful until death...”
