Know your audience b How big will it be? b What will the composition be?  Age, sex, background etc. b What is their knowledge of the subject?

What is the room like? b Size of room b Acoustics b Available facilities

Structure of talk Your presentation should have b An introduction b A statement of aims b A well structured and developed argument b A clear conclusion

Visual Aids Visual aids can b give structure and pace to your talk b act as an alternative to notes b reinforce key points b demonstrate structure b present information graphically b help maintain audience interest

The presentation b Look at your audience b Do not read out your notes: use instead  cards with key words/phrases or  headings on OHT b Have a plan b Vary your pace and style b Have an appropriate ending

At the end b Invite questions b Answer the question directly b Be honest with your answer b Keep your answers brief b Finally, thank your audience for their attention
