 Ms. Shadetra S. Robinson  Grant Program Specialist State Trade and Export Promotion Program (STEP) U.S. Small Business Administration  Managing 12 grants and has been with the Federal Government since April  Prior to coming to the SBA, her professional career focus was in the field of disability and mental health with over ten years of experience specializing in youth services. In 2006, Shadetra began her Federal career working for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services before moving to the Small Business Administration (SBA) 3 years ago to the SBA Office of International Trade. Mr. Eddy S. Mayen Director Office of International Business Development and Protocol Business Action Center New Jersey Department of State.  The diverse responsibilities of his unit include: everything from export assistance to establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with the foreign business and government community.  The International Business Development and Protocol office provides, at no cost to New Jersey companies, trade assistance in export related areas, foreign market intelligence, commercial diplomacy, assistance in overcoming trade barriers; and resources in identifying export market opportunities.  Mr. Mayen has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business from the College of New Jersey, is fluent in Spanish and a 10+ year veteran of the US Army and the NJ National Guard. What is STEP? New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP)

NJ STEP program:  In 2012, U.S. Small Business Administration (US SBA) awarded New Jersey a STEP grant in the amount of $203,431 to support the export initiatives of “eligible small business concerns.”  In the end, the NJ STEP program produced the following results: Actual export sales by reporting companies were $3,619,550.

NJ STEP program:  Return on Investment (ROI) for the NJ STEP program was : 1  Our projected ROI when the State submitted its proposed program was 6.8 : 1.  The State exceeded its initial projected ROI by more than 160%.

New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion Program (NJ STEP)  New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion Grant Program (NJ STEP) – Year 3 –2014 Award $275,000 –New Jersey one of only 24 states –Increase number of new small business exporters –Increase value of exports by existing small business exporters –Expand job creation & retention –Administered by International Business Development and Protocol Office –October 1, 2014-September 30, 2015

How to apply New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP)

NJ STEP program:  The new award came with revised criteria established by the U.S. SBA.  STEP support placed an emphasis on the ROI of the activities that support each State’s overall proposed milestone goals.  Core standards from the previous program have been maintained: 1) Profitable in the 12 months prior to receiving a STEP sub-grant; 2) In existence for more than one year; and 3) “Small” as defined by the SBA.

NJ STEP program:  Further, applicants are requested to project export sales and numbers of new hires if any.  All of which is evaluated by the Office to award the most deserving New Jersey exporters STEP support.  The results through today’s date are as follows: $32,665 have been awarded to companies projecting over $2,000,000 of exports and 24 new hires.

How to apply New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP)

 NJ State Trade and Export Promotion Program –(  Stage 1 - STEP application requirements: –NJ STEP Program Survey –NJ STEP Projected Return on Investment Form –Self Representation as an 'Eligible Small Business Concern’ Form –Certification Regarding Debarment, Suspension, and Other Responsibility Matters Primary Covered Transactions New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion Program (NJ STEP)

 If approved: the following forms/documents are required  Stage 2 - STEP application requirements: –1. Completed and signed original copy of NJ W-9 form –2. Current Tax Clearance Certificate issued by the NJ Division of Taxation –3. Copy of current Business Registration Certificate –4. Copy of your firms DUNS number : NJ STEP – Stage 2 application

 Upon completion of your event, we require: 1. Submit evidence of paid receipts for costs incurred 2. Brief report on results of event (sales, meetings, projections, leads etc.) 3. Going forward, brief quarterly updates on export sales and/or jobs created, retained NJ STEP – Stage 3 Post award

What can STEP funds Be used for? New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP)

The NJ STEP program can help support: –Registration cost to trade shows and expos –Cost of booth space at a trade show –Cost to participate in a trade mission –U.S. Department of Commerce – Commercial Service subscription services such as Gold Key services New Jersey State Trade and Export Promotion Program (NJ STEP)

Export Assistance to expand to new markets  STEP supported Focused Food Mission to Taiwan and SIAL Shanghai show  Introduced COFCO (China’s largest food import/export company), and government officers from Shanghai and Taiwan to IAS International American Supermarket (IAS) - Piscataway

Export Assistance and International Advocacy  STEP supported mission to Colombia, medical trade show – MEDICA - UAE  Company background check prior to signing up distributorship in Taiwan JACE Systems – Cherry Hill

Export Assistance and International Advocacy  STEP supported Medica show in Germany  Introduced to Taiwan consular officials; Scimedx was selected by Taiwanese government as one of the NJ companies visiting Taiwan for 1-on-1, B-to-B meetings, with in-country expense paid by Taiwan Scimedx – Dover
