1 Romans 5:1-21 Justification Found Through The Gospel, Not The Law of Moses – 3:21-8:39

2  The Gospel of Christ is the ONLY hope for sinful man – (1:16,17; 3:21-23)  The sinful condition of the whole world and its need for salvation – (1:18-3:20)  Men are justified by pardon, not merit (accounted righteous by grace through faith – not perfect law keeping) – (3:21 - 4:25)  The benefits of justification based on Christ’s death – Death through Adam, life Through Christ - (5:1-25)

4  Christ died for us when we were still helpless and ungodly – (6; Eph. 2:1-5; Col. 2:11-13; Titus 3:1-5)  The love of God, in contrast to fickle human love – (7, 8; John 15:13; 1 John 3:16; 4:9, 10)  Having been declared righteous by Christ’s blood, Christians will be saved from God’s wrath through him - (9-11; John. 5:24; Eph. 2:13; Heb. 9:14,22; Rom. 8:1)

5  Not teaching the doctrine of original sin or total hereditary depravity – (12, 18,19; 3:23)  The text is dealing with the sin of one man and its consequences compared to one man’s obedience and its consequences – (15,17,18- 21)  Adam sinned even though he was in a perfect environment – we are constitutionally the same (1 Jn 3:4)
