The Migration Gen 9:1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” The family tree of Noah: Shem Ham Japheth And sons were born to them after the flood.. 1

The Migration Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Japhethites: Gen 10: 2-5 The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. From these the coastland [peoples] of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations. 2

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Hamites: Gen 10: 6-20 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD." And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah, and Resen between Nineveh and Calah 3

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Hamites: Gen 10: 6-20 cont. Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines and Caphtorim). Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth; the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite; the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite; the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed. And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. These the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands and in their nations. 4

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Semites: Gen 10: And children were born also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder. The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. Arphaxad begot Salah, and Salah begot Eber. To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. 5

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Semites: Gen 10: cont. Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. And their dwelling place was from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east. These were the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, according to their nations. 6

The Table of Nations Gen 10:32 These were the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations; and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood. 7

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Japheth: (14 descendants) 7 sons and 7 grandsons Japheth’s descendants populated: - the principal nations of Asia Minor - the Medes in the Extreme East - the Ionians, Greeks, and Romans - the lands north of Rome (Europe) Spain - Cyprus and Rhodes 8

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Shem (29 descendants) 4 sons & 23 grandsons & 2 great-grandsons Shem’s descendants populated – - the lands East of the Mediterranean Sea -the lands West of Asia - Jews, Aramites, Assyrians, and Arabs - Semite languages: Arabic, Hebrew - plus Assyria, Chaldea, Lud (Lydia) & other lands 9

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham (29 descendants) 4 sons & 23 grandsons & 2 great-grandsons Ham’s descendants populated – - Cush (Ethiopia) - Egypt - Libya - Canaan and the Arabian Coast - Babylon 10

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. How can the 8 survivors of the Ark populate the who earth? Eskimos are different then Mexicans Mexicans are different then Chinese Chinese are different then Norwegians Norwegians are different then Africans 11

The Table of Nations Gen 10:1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.12 We know that skin color is governed by more than one pair of genes. For simplicity, let's assume there are only two, located at positions A and B on the chromosomes. One form of the gene, "M," “says” to make lots of Melanin; another form of the gene, "m," says to only make a little melanin.

The Table of Nations Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Ham’s descendants generally produced peoples and nations that opposed the works of God and His people in the Old Testament. That is why the Old Testament came to proclaim the divine wrath on these peoples, being symbols of evil. Cush = darkness of ignorance Egypt = love of the world Canaan = Idolatry 13

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.14

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Many consider this to be a positive, complimentary testimony about Nimrod. 15

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Many consider this to be a positive, complimentary testimony about Nimrod. Actually, It is just the opposite! 16

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. So Who Was Nimrod? Very significant man in ancient times Nimrod was the grandson of HamHam Nimrod was the great-grandson of NoahNoah Nimrod started his kingdom at BabylonBabylon17

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. What does the name Nimrod mean? 18

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. What does the name Nimrod mean? It comes from the Hebrew verb marad (MRD) meaning "rebel.“ 19

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. What does the name Nimrod mean? It comes from the Hebrew verb marad (MRD) meaning "rebel." Adding an “N” before the “m” it becomes an infinitive construct, "Nimrod.” 20

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. What does the name Nimrod mean? It comes from the Hebrew verb marad (MRD) meaning "rebel." Adding an “N” before the “m” it becomes an infinitive construct, "Nimrod.” The meaning then is "The Rebel.” 21

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Thus “Nimrod” is probably not his true name at all. It is more likely a derisive term symbolizing a type or a representative of a system, epitomized in rebellion against God the Creator If, as we believe, Genesis is true we should expect to see some mention of a character like Nimrod in ex-Biblical sources, like in In Genesis 10:8-11 “Nimrod” established a kingdom. If, as we believe, Genesis is true we should expect to see some mention of a character like Nimrod in ex-Biblical sources, like in the literature of the ancient Near EastGenesis 10:8-11 Clay tablets have been found describing such an individual 22

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. n actual Tablets naming an actual person named Gilgamesh, who is stunningly, similar to Nimrod were found among the ruins of a temple library and the palace library in Nineveh and are dated to 2000 B.C. but the Gilgamesh story is undoubtedly much olderNineveh The arrogance, ruthlessness and depravity of Gilgamesh were a grave concern for the citizens his kingdom, Uruk 23

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Parallels between Nimrod & Gilgamesh Gilgamesh fought against "Huwawa" very similar to “YHWH” Gilgamesh & Nimrod were both tyrants There was a flood in the Bible and the story of Gilgamesh. Cush and Erech are mentioned in the Bible, Kish & Uruk were cities in Gilgamesh's kingdom CushErech 24

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. What the ancient historian What the ancient historian Josephus says about Nimrod is precisely what is found in the Gilgamesh epics. Nimrod persuaded his kingdom to ascribe their happiness to their own courage not to God and he gradually changed the government into tyranny and turned men from the fear of God, bringing them into a constant dependence upon his own power. Gilgamesh set up tyranny, he opposed YHWH and did his utmost to get people to forsake Him. 25

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Only 8 peopleOnly 8 people came from the Ark & all worshipped YHWHArk But at some point an influential person became opposed to YHWH and gathered others to his side I suggest that Nimrod is the one who did it, just as Cain had done before the Flood Cain 26

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Our English translation of the Hebrew of Genesis 10:8-10 is weak.Genesis 10:8-10 The author of the passage will not honor Gilgamesh and call him by his name Rather he calls him by a sarcastic name “The Rebel” Therefore we might interpret Genesis 10:8-10 to read, Cush begat Nimrod; Nimrod became a tyrant in the earth. He was a tyrannical hunter in opposition to the Lord. Thus it is said, 'Nimrod the tyrannical opponent of YHWH.' 27

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. Man’s present day tower of Babel is Post Modernism, our culture, and our civilization Like the people of Babylon, we build our great buildings to honor what we think is important. Look at most any city, and the largest buildings will tell you what the culture ultimately values. 28

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. It is an interesting behavior, isn't it. The powerful get to name entire buildings, while less important just get their names on bricks, or brass plaques 29

The Rebellion Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. The largest buildings will tell you what the culture ultimately values. 30

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech Babylon later reached its zenith under NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnezzar31

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech32 Gen 11:4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech33 Note the use of the word “us” Gen 11:3-4 "Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.“ "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; “let us make a name for ourselves” Gen 11:7 “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech34 “Us” refers to the Mystery of the Tri-unity Godhead. Gen 1:26 “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” Matt 3:16 ”Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice [came] from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matt 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech35 Three points about the Judgment are 1.Divine discernment 2.Divine Counsel 3.Divine Judgment

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech36 1.Divine discernment - God sees all things PS 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. PS 102:19 For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; From heaven the LORD viewed the earth Heb 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech37 2.Divine Counsel - The unity of the Godhead is for man’s blessing. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time GAL 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech38 3.Divine Judgment - and God’s plan for salvation a.Confusion of the Tongues = Judgment b.Unity of the Tongues = Grace c.Harmony of Tongues = Glory

The Judgment Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech41 3.Divine Judgment - and God’s plan for salvation a.Confusion of the Tongues = Judgment b.Unity of the Tongues = Grace c.Harmony of Tongues = Glory Rev 7:9-10 all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb,…and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation [belongs] to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
