Shooting Star Chase

Registered Charity No Can you help us find the missing 30,000 children and families in the UK who need our support?

The Data Database of every child Shooting Star Chase had cared for since Anonymised data with location, demographics, use of hospice information

Hospice Supply - England & Wales

Hospice Demand - England & Wales

Supply vs Demand (existing hospices)

Findings and Insights Several key geographical areas of demand are being missed Many hospices are struggling to meet demand in their local areas We found Shooting Star Chase’s missing children 1 2 3

Key question Understand the effectiveness of various referrer types?

Streamlining referrals Hospices could use a simple checklist for people referring children Unless the referral passes a threshold based on the checklist, the process won’t be progressed

Summary Shooting Star Chase found where their missing children are likely to be and streamlined their referrals process. Post DataDive: A couple of volunteers went on to build an interactive dashboard for the hospice. The dashboard is being used to persuade clinical commissioners of the high demand for children’s end-of-life services and the need for more funding for the sector. Plan to roll it out across all children’s hospices in England and Wales.
