Rock Your Smile

Tooth Decay/Cavities  Definition: Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. Take care of your teeth or there will be consequences.

Tooth Decay!  Tooth Decay is caused by a breakdown of the tooth enamel which is a result of bacteria on teeth that breakdowns food and produces acid that destroys tooth enamel and results in tooth decay

Brushing  Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes a day. This also includes flossing as an important way of relieving the mouth of any hazardous germs, such as plaque, bacteria, and of course prevents gingivitis. Doing these steps everyday will make your teeth healthier and look their BEST!

Brush the Outer, Inner, and Chewing surfaces of your teeth!! Use fluoride toothpaste

Avoid Sugary Snacks  Sugary snacks although tasty, contain acids which can oxidize and rotten your teeth. This relieves your teeth of the minerals it contains. This also can cause dangerous cavities. Dental decay is a process of the acids tearing down the minerals. Plus, the acids stay connected to the teeth for minutes, so it’s important to remember to brush carefully and fully.

Mouth guards?  Yes, wearing a mouth guard is very important to the protection of teeth. No one wants to break, chip, or damage the teeth, so by wearing a mouth guard you reduce these statistics drastically. This should be done when being involved in any physical sports or activity, where being struck in the mouth is more of a risk.

How does smoking lead to unhealthy oral hygiene?  Smoking effects the attachment of bone and soft tissue to your teeth which leads to gum disease.  Rots your teeth  Turns teeth yellow  Creates bad breath

 If someone begins smoking at age 18 by the time they are 35 they could lose 4 to 5 teeth, that is not cute. Smoking not only hurts your teeth but also your body, plus they cost around $4 per pack. Imagine smoking a pack everyday that is $1,460 a year on something that kills you. When you smoke your teeth turn yellow and begin to rot. Gross. Good Advice!!!!!!! Don’t Smoke!!!!

See a dentists regularly ! CLEANING PATIENT’S TEETH! THINGS THAT A DENTIST MIGHT DO TO TREAT YOU !

see your dentist regularly Check-up  Your dental professional will check for cavities, plaque, or tartar  Plaque is a clear, sticky layer a bacteria, if not removed, it can harden and become tartar  Tarter causes oral diseases  Gums will also be checked  With healthy gums spaces are shallow  People have gum diseases when spaces are deep  Check-up should also include tongue, throat, face, head, and neck to look for any signs of trouble, swelling, or cancer

How You Can Prevent Tooth Decay You can prevent tooth decay by not eating a lot of sugary things Brush your teeth 2 times a day. Don’t smoke Wear a mouth guard when playing sports See a dentist regularly. Brush the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of your teeth

More preventives for tooth decay  Brush with fluoride toothpaste after eating or drinking....  Rinse your mouth....  Visit your dentist regularly....  Consider dental sealants....  Drink some tap water....  Avoid frequent snacking and sipping....  Eat tooth-healthy foods....  Consider fluoride treatments.
