The Life cycle of a frog

From tadpole to frog A female frog lays thousands of eggs in spring. She lays them near still water in woodlands and bogs. The eggs are called frogspawn. It looks like greyish/white jelly with a black dot in the centre.

The black dot becomes a tadpole. They eat the jelly around them.

Frogspawn to tadpole As they grow, they grow a tail. They breathe through gills like a fish. They use their tail to swim. They grow back legs first.

Living on land. As they grow front legs, their lungs develop and they can start to breathe on land.

The frog Now the frog can live on land and breathe under water. They use their back legs to jump and their front legs to land and balance. They use their long sticky tongue to catch insects.

Wiggle, waggle, wiggle Underneath the water weeds, small and black I wriggle And life is most surprising, wiggle, waggle, wiggle, There’s every now and then a most exciting change in me, I wonder wiggle, waggle, What I will turn out to be……
