The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) By: Da Mormons (aka Alyssa and Rachel)

ORIGIN ●Who? ○ Joseph Smith was the founder of the LDS church. ●When? ○ Twas the year 1830 ●Where? ○ New York state Joseph Smith, founder of LDS church

5 THINGS THEY BELIEVE: ●Jesus Christ is the savior of the world, and the son of God. (So they are Christians, contrary to the argument that Mormons aren’t. the LDS church is simply another branch of christianity) ●Every person on earth is the child of God.

5 THINGS THEY BELIEVE CONT. ● They do not drink alcohol/caffeinated beverages, watch R rated movies or get tattoos. ● Families can be sealed together for eternity in the LDS temples found around the world, so they are still together after death.

Universal Religion ● The LDS religion is a universal religion. In fact, boys 18-21ish years of age are highly encouraged to go on two year missions to spread the church around the world. ● Girls are also welcome to serve on missions when they’re 19 years of age, for 18 months.

Hierarchal Structure ● Then there are stakes made up of about 5 wards (with a stake president in charge of each stake) ● Each ward is made up of about 750 people

Diffusion over time This graph shows the growth rate of the LDS church since 1950 until 2008 compared the the world population’s growth rate during that time.

Distribution today These maps shows the percentage of LDS people (Mormons) in each county. You can see that a high Mormon population is centered around Utah, where they settled in 1847.

Sacred Spaces & Places ● They have temples, sacred places where they perform holy ordinances. Seattle temple (it’s actually in Bellevue; you can see it from the freeway) Salt Lake City temple during Christmas time- it’s a popular place for tourists when visiting Utah
