What has Jesus done? He completed his work of redeeming the world.

Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."

What has Jesus done? He completed his work of redeeming the world. He gives us the personal benefit through faith (trust) in him. But I am unable to believe in him by myself.

Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? The Holy Spirit gives me faith in Jesus as my Savior and my Lord.

Acts 5:3-4 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4) Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."

The Holy Spirit… Is true God along with the Father and the Son.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit… Is true God along with the Father and the Son. Works faith in me through God’s Word and Sacraments. A Sacrament is a sacred act commanded by God that gives forgiveness through faith.

1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

The Holy Spirits work of bringing me to faith in Jesus is called: Conversion (being turned around from unbelief to faith)

John 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

This work of the Holy Spirit is also called: Regeneration (being born again)

God wants all to be saved. Luke 14:16-24 (The Parable of the Banquet) (2 Peter 3:9) The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God wants all people to be saved BUT some refuse his gift. (Acts 7:51) "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! Those who reject the Holy Spirit’s call are lost by their own fault.

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

The work of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit enlightens me, that is, He gives me spiritual understanding and joy (through the Gospel).

John 15:5 Galatians 5:22-23 I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23) gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Ephesians 2:10 Philippians 2:13 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Philippians 2:13) for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

The Holy Spirit Equips Me to Serve Jesus After I become a believer. He produces good works of gratitude in my life. (He sanctifies me.)

1 Peter 1:5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

The work of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit keeps me in the faith through the Gospel in Word and Sacrament. (The Means of Grace)

1 Corinthians 6:11 1Thessalonians 1:3 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The work of the Holy Spirit In short… The Holy Spirit sanctifies me, that is, He sets me apart from the unbelieving world for a life of good works.

I need to depend on the Holy Spirit all my life; Therefore I need to use regularly God’s Word and Sacraments through which the Holy Spirit comes to me.
