Mount Rushmore in South Dakota… … is a granite sculpture with figures of the heads of former American Presidents, namely, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. All the figures measure nearly 60 feet. The carving of Mount Rushmore was started in the year 1927 and was completed in the year 1941 with the help of nearly 400 workers.

Sequoia National Park - California The park - established is famous for its giant sequoia trees. The biggest tree on the planet, „General Sherman“ is 83 m tall. The area is also rich in wildlife. It is home to foxes, rattlesnakes, ground squirrels and bobcats.

New Orleans - Louisiana The city is named after the Duke of Orleans, Regent of France, as the area was a French colony in the 18th century. Remarkable French Creole architecture in the French Quarter and in the famous cemetery of St. Louis attracts tourists to the city, especially in February to see the Mardi Gras festival. The city is the cradle of jazz which is played all over the historic centre. In 2005 New Orleans was totally flooded when Hurricane Katrina hit.

Kennedy Space Center - Florida From this place all unmanned and human space flights have been launched since 1968 The Cape Canaveral Air Force Station was used as a base for Space Shuttles. The project finished in 2011 and the space stations are served by Russian rockets today.

Everglades National Park - Florida About a million tourists visit the largest subtropical national park in south Florida every year. The most common ecosystem of this area are sloughs with flowing water which are home for the American crocodile. The park is a habitat for the Florida panther and another 40 species of mammals, 350 species of birds and 50 species of reptiles who have adapted to the subtropical environment. The park contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the western hemisphere
